My brain just blew up.
Hmmm try telling that, “chasing a snare sound doesn’t matter”, to Bruce Springsteen during the making of Born in the USA. I’m convinced that Albums emotion wouldn’t be what it is without their collective exploration down that ‘rabbit hole’. The pilgrimage that leads to achieving a sound that we visualise brings out emotions that all can feel, relate to, and aspire to, but few have the balls to pursue such a self imposed psychosis
Wow ... thanks.
True❤
Hi, when you recorded that loud, how to trim down a level volume before converter? Thanks
Wow - just coming across this now! Great content. Love the podcast.
Great interview with an amazing guy! Honored that he mentions our songwriting collaboration which is one I am very grateful for. 🎶
Do you have channels on one side and busses on the other? What is your preferred layout?
Thanks.
Harold is talented and nice beyond belief. He deserves all the success he has earned.
Really appreciate this interview. In my book Todd Lombardo is the best acoustic player on the planet and any info on his approach or experience is immensely useful.
Im looking forward to reading the book now. I hadn’t planned on getting this book until I heard this podcast. It sounds like this book covers a lot of ground.
"if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything". That's Mark Martin.
My buddy is the truth! Full of a lot of knowledge and wisdom!! Type guy when you hear him talking you listen because if he considers you a “friend” it’s a blessing because u can learn a lot from a teacher like him!
Micah needs to come back to Jesus.
It’s july 2024 and STILL no news on the Ministack Studio…. Does anyone know what’s going on?
I don’t sorry. Is it not out yet?
No, and no news on a releasedate. I even reached out to OWC but they did not give any updates. Maybe you have some inside connections in OWC that you could ask for an update?
Mark Martin is a Treasure Trove of Stories...that's for sure.
"MARK"!!!!!!!
THAT'S MY BOY! GET IT Mark!
🍓🍓🍓
Hey there! Great video. Quick question, been scouting the internet for a stepped pots mic pre to slap on the mix bus… Are the pots stepped on the 201?
Yes they are stepped.
Awesome!!❤
An absolutely excellent interview Lij! Love Brad's philosophy, so many great gems and detail from BOTH of you guys!
Thanks!!
I remember getting some great feedback through cheap computer speakers.
Dope interview Good work bud
Thanks!
I enjoyed this, Brad has a great philosophy on things, inspiring really. I was also pleasantly surprised about the discussion of Chuck Prophet and Qiensave, as I'm friends with some of the Qiensave guys and play in a psychedlic cumbia band myself here in the SF Bay Area. He nailed it about the nuances of cumbia bass playing and more broadly the outsized role of the bass in those old chicha and Cumbia Peruana songs. Definitely worth a deep dive as Chuck seems to have done.
Super cool!
Really enjoyed this one. Lots of great philosophy.
Nice job. Love my Spire studio.
Very interesting and insightful conversation. ❤ from India
where does Izotope download the stems after doing Stem Split? It does the work, and I have no idea where they end up (like at 54:03 in the video)?
60 vocals in Your Love? I was only able to hear 6 vocals (2 vocals per harmony in a 3 part.) But jesus christ you sure did fool me. I do want to know if one day you'd be able to release the vocal stems (that is if legal things don't get in the way. But I'm impressed and want to thank you for helping out with such an amazing song and band.
"that's what it's meant to sound like" - sounds easy when he says it, but it takes a lot to achieve that.
No cord for the mic?
Beautiful gear, just discovered this brand.
Loved this episode, Greg Norman rocks. Good journey to the stars Steve.
Apologies but I had to stop watching a minute or so in. The music was too loud and super distracting. Please take that for the constructive criticism it's meant to be. 👍
Can you separate that room with another wall, so you can have the computer and things on one side and have the artist on the other side?
Really enjoyed this one, thanks Lij and Bill!
19:00 - why / how is magnetic tape immune from deterioration over time? Don't we regularly hear/read about tape "shedding" and suffering all manner of degradation (in mere decades). Why is that more stable and archival than, I dunno, a memory stick or similar??
Thanks for sharing! What if I want to kill snare from my over heads?
If you was playing a 2 (EMaj) why did you put a b3 ? You could have just put 2 which is Maj 2- is minor ? With the NNS all chords are Maj unless noted otherwise.
The most tragic part of Steve's passing is that he was recently really picking up pace with his online videos and tutorials. It pains me to think of all that knowledge disappearing into the ether. The man had such an understanding of the art, science, technology, politics, and socio-economics of music. Every recording of him is absolute golddust
Another great episode. I learned so much! Mike's insight and the interviews on this channel are invaluable. Thank you both!
You're welcome and thanks for listening!
Nicely done! Sounds golden!!
Thank you!
I love your show mate. Human, funny and just brillinat - the thing i dont understand is that your original recordings must be terrible if you a are having to use all that Izotope RX restoration on them. LOL
In the iPhone Spire app you can’t move pieces of a recording left or right … extremely limiting which turned me off to Spire completely. Unless there’s a way to do this? He pointed out the lack of a built in tuner as well
Talk about a pro... This guy knew everything!
“No, you Demain”
Ha!
great conversation. thank you recording studio rockstars!
You’re welcome! Thanks for listening :)
